Supplementation - Are You Getting Right Dose of Vitamins and Microelements Daily?

Updated: Nov 28, 2022

Supplementation is one of the pillars for longevity and health optimization in holistic wellness protocol which I recommend to my clients. Taking supplements and vitamins is necessary for your wellness.

There are several uses for supplements, not the least of which is the substitution for nutrients that are no longer present in modern food. “Soils depletion” has rendered much of our food supply devoid of many nutrients necessary for full function and health in humans. So in today’s world it is impossible to obtain all necessary micro elements, vitamins, and nutrients from food alone.

Supplementation each day delivers vitamins, micro-elements and nutrients needed for healthy and functioning bodies. Supplements provide the missing link between what is necessary for optimal health and what is missing from our food supply. Many systems and organs will not function optimally without the correct level of nutrients.

Supplements are also used to balance, support or stimulate certain functions in the body such as digestion, detoxification, hormone metabolism, energy production, immune and nervous system, and many other areas of concern including pathogen eradication.

All supplements should be free of chemicals such as insecticides, pesticides, herbicides and so on. Further they must be derived from all-natural ingredients, nothing artificial. They must also be made in a way that maintains high level bio-availability. The higher the bioavailability of your supplement, the more of the micro-element is actually absorbed and used by our body.

Avoid Synthetic Supplements. They are more likely to contain hidden, toxic ingredients. Even though the synthetic supplements may have higher concentrations of vitamins, they aren’t absorbed or excreted properly by the body. That means that you can end up with a toxic build up of vitamins in your liver that your body can’t even use.

Although supplementation is a very important pillar of longevity and health optimization, it is a common mistake - over supplementation. Once the human body uses the vitamins and minerals it needs, the rest is excreted or stored. So an overload of vitamins and minerals can hurt you.

For example, too much vitamin C or zinc could cause nausea, diarrhea, and stomach cramps; too much selenium could lead to hair loss, gastrointestinal upset, fatigue, and mild nerve damage; too much vitamin A can cause headaches and liver damage, reduce bone strength, and cause birth defects. Excess iron causes nausea and vomiting and may damage the liver and other organs.

As an FDN Practitioner, I assess HIDDEN Imbalances and Dysfunction in the body:

  • Hormone Imbalances - HPA Axis Dysfunction.

  • Immune deficiency - Dysbiosis, Overthrows of opportunistic bacteria, Melatonin dysregulation.

  • Digestion - Maldigestion, Malabsorption, Integrity.

  • Detox capacity - congested liver, toxicity, Gut permeability;

  • Energy production - Oxidative imbalance, Oxidative stress;

  • Autonomic Nervous system imbalances.

Then after assessment and identifying Healing Opportunities, I recommend Supplementation Protocols with selected supplements, based on lab results and clinical correlation to:

  • Support Metabolic Type - Balance Autonomic Nervous Systems;

  • Support HPA - Restore Hormone Balance;

  • Support Immune Function, Restore Microflora, Gut Integrity;

  • Support Digestion and Assimilation of nutrients;

  • Support Liver and Detoxification, Anti-oxidation, Mitochondria;

  • Support Pathogen Eradication.

I teach clients not just what supplements to take, but also recommend the right order and dosage, as well as teach to pay attention, feel and learn to assess their own body. Therefore I recommend: Sequencing and Self-titration. Sequencing supplements means starting with one product at a time to identify adverse reactions to each of the products.

Self-titrating means starting with one capsule or a few drops of each supplement and then increasing by one capsule or a few drops each time. If no reaction or no adverse reaction, then continuing to increase the number of caps or drops to the maximum number I recommended. If some number of capsules or drops creates ill effects, clients should reduce dosage to the previous level where no negatives occurred and maintain the optimal dosage.

Once an appropriate dosage is set up for a supplement, then the client can start taking the next supplement one by one according to the order which I recommended. As well as dosage, the order of introducing supplements is critical. For example if we plan pathogens eradication we start with treating viruses first if it is tested positive. If dealing with parasites, bacteria, fungi, yeast first, viruses like H. pylori can remain kinda dorman and compromise the host to kill other pathogens coming into the stomach.

The method of Sequencing and Self-titration helps to achieve better clinical outcomes, and minimizes adverse reactions. So you receive benefits of targeted supplementation and learn how to maintain your own self-care program – for life!
