Your Gut: More Than Digestion
Dr. Pedre explains one of the biggest misconceptions in modern health: that the gut is only responsible for digestion.
“What we’ve learned through both science and clinical experience,” he explains, “is that the gut influences everything—from immunity and metabolism to mental clarity, sleep, energy, and even muscle building.”
Far beyond isolated digestive issues, gut imbalances can manifest as systemic inflammation, mood disorders, poor immune resilience, and hormonal dysregulation.
“If you want to be healthy,” he emphasizes, “you have to pay attention to your gut.”
Bridging Functional and Ancient Wisdom
Dr. Pedre’s unique approach blends Functional Medicine with Eastern healing philosophies. In today’s overstimulated world, he identifies nervous system dysregulation as a major obstacle to gut repair:
“So many of my patients are stuck in fight-or-flight mode. We’re chronically overstimulated, and our immune and nervous systems are constantly under siege.”
His prescription? A return to simple practices that activate the parasympathetic (rest-and-digest) response:
Breathwork and meditation
Tai chi and Qigong
Acupuncture and grounding practices
“It’s no longer optional,” he adds. “Calming the nervous system must be part of any gut-healing protocol.”
The Vagus Nerve and Technology That Helps
One of the most powerful levers for healing is the vagus nerve, which regulates gut-brain communication. Dr. Pedre recommends both ancient and modern tools to support it.
A notable example is the Alpha-Stim—an FDA-cleared device for anxiety and depression. It activates brainstem pathways, boosts serotonin and dopamine, and improves vagal tone.
“Most people don’t realize that 80% of the signals on the vagus nerve go from body to brain. So relaxing the body—through breath, movement, or acupuncture—literally changes how the brain responds.”
Simple Daily Habits That Heal
When asked for daily strategies that anyone can implement, Dr. Pedre emphasizes simplicity and consistency:
Gratitude Practice – “Daily journaling shifts your mindset and relaxes the body. Even in suffering, there’s always something to be grateful for.”
Lemon Water – “Start your day with room-temperature water and fresh lemon juice. It stimulates digestion, bile production, and stomach acid.”
Movement Before Meals – “Whether it’s rebounding, yoga, or light cardio, movement boosts lymph flow and primes digestion—especially for those with constipation.”
Introducing Happy Gut Coffee
Recognizing that coffee is a non-negotiable ritual for many, Dr. Pedre set out to make it healthier. Happy Gut Coffee is organic, mold-free, and low-acid—designed for people with sensitive guts.
“Most commercial coffee contains hidden toxins like pesticides and ochratoxin A,” he explains. “I wanted to create something that people could enjoy without compromising their gut health.”
Happy Gut Coffee is carefully roasted to reduce acidity and bitterness while preserving flavor and integrity. It’s crafted from organic beans sourced from multiple regions (including Guatemala and Colombia) to ensure consistent taste across seasons.
Why It Works:
Low-acid and gentle on the stomach
Free of mold and mycotoxins
Organic and sustainably sourced

More Than Coffee: Formulas That Heal
Dr. Pedre will also bring two of his bestselling gut-support formulas to the conference:
Leaky Gut Advantage – A powdered blend with L-glutamine, aloe, DGL, and glucosamine, clinically shown to help reduce intestinal permeability and strengthen the gut lining.
Flex & Digest Collagen – A multifunctional blend for joints, skin, nails, and the gut lining, backed by 15 clinical trials.
“Collagen is rich in glycine, which supports detoxification and has powerful cellular protective effects,” he notes. “Once inflammation is under control, collagen provides the building blocks for healing from the inside out.”
Nutrition as Medicine: Omega-3s and Inflammation
To address systemic inflammation, Dr. Pedre stresses the importance of omega-3 fatty acids, particularly EPA and DHA, which help regulate immune responses and repair the gut lining. Deficiencies are widespread and linked to leaky gut, inflammation, and metabolic disorders.
Why Quality Matters: TOTOX and Processing
A key quality marker for omega-3 oils is the TOTOX value (Total Oxidation)—a measure of rancidity. A score under 10 is ideal; higher levels indicate degradation that may promote inflammation rather than reduce it.
Most fish oils are heat-processed, which can damage delicate fatty acids. Look for cold-processed, molecularly distilled oils, which preserve potency while eliminating contaminants like mercury and PCBs.
Why Animal Omega-3s Work Better
Plant-based sources (like flax, chia, and walnuts) contain ALA (alpha-linolenic acid), which must be converted by the body into EPA and DHA. This conversion is extremely limited:
Only 5–10% of ALA becomes EPA
Just 0.5–4% becomes DHA
Conversion is further reduced by inflammation, stress, and nutrient deficiencies
By contrast, animal sources—such as fish, cod liver oil, and algae—provide preformed EPA and DHA, which are immediately bioavailable and much more effective at reducing inflammation.
Dr. Pedre’s Top Omega-3 Picks
Wild-caught salmon and sardines – naturally rich in EPA/DHA and protective antioxidants like astaxanthin
High-quality fish oil supplements:
Nordic Naturals (cold-processed, low TOTOX, 3rd-party tested)
WHC UnoCardio 1000 (IFOS-certified, consistently top-ranked for purity)
Rosita Cod Liver Oil (raw, nutrient-rich, unheated)
NutriGold Omega-3 (transparent, IFOS-certified, ultra-clean)
For vegans: Algae-based omega-3s offer preformed DHA and EPA but often require higher doses. Choose third-party tested formulas with added antioxidants.
Bottom Line: To get the true medicinal benefits of omega-3s, choose supplements that are:
Low in TOTOX (<10)
Cold-processed
Rich in EPA/DHA
Third-party tested (IFOS, Labdoor, GOED)
Derived from animal or algae-based sources—not just ALA
