'Third Eye’ - Endocrine System's Rhythmic Maestro

Updated: Apr 23

The endocrine system stands as a marvel of biological engineering, with its principal players: the pituitary gland, thyroid and parathyroid, adrenal glands, pancreas, hypothalamus, thymus, ovaries and testes, and the pineal gland orchestrating a symphony of hormones that govern countless physiological processes. These hormones act as chemical messengers, ensuring everything from metabolism to mood and reproduction operates harmoniously.

Pineal gland is the endocrine system's rhythmic maestro

While the pituitary gland, situated at the base of the brain just below the hypothalamus, is known as the 'Master Gland,' the pineal gland serves as the endocrine system's rhythmic maestro. Located deep within the brain between the two hemispheres and often referred to as the 'Third Eye' — a symbolic term associated with the pineal gland's spiritual or intuitive significance — the pineal gland is more than its small size suggests.

Pineal responds to light and darkness by receiving information from the environment and releasing melatonin to regulate the body's sleep-wake cycle. When exposed to darkness, the pineal gland secretes melatonin; when exposed to light, it does not. That's why it's important to expose your eyes to sunlight first thing after waking up before using electronic devices and to avoid exposure to blue light before bedtime. The pineal gland helps regulate body temperature and informs the body of the season and length of days through its influence on melatonin secretion and the circadian rhythm.

The pineal gland collaborates with the hypothalamus to regulate melatonin secretion and maintain hormonal balance. The hypothalamus produces a hormone called gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH), which stimulates the pituitary gland to release luteinising hormone (LH) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH). Melatonin can influence the secretion of GnRH, thereby indirectly affecting the levels of LH and FSH.

The pineal gland grows in size until about 1–2 years of age, and its weight increases gradually from puberty onwards. Melatonin, which is synthesized and secreted by the pineal gland, supports brain health through its neuroprotective and antioxidative properties. It acts as an antioxidant, neutralizing harmful free radicals, and has been shown to support healthy brain aging. While melatonin production may decrease slightly during adolescence, it continues throughout adulthood, albeit at varying levels depending on the functionality of the pineal gland.

Calcification of the pineal gland

With all this being said, we want to support our pineal gland health. Calcification of the pineal gland, or the accumulation of calcium deposits, can hamper its function. Various factors contribute to this phenomenon:

  • As we age, the propensity for calcium deposits in the pineal gland increases, potentially disrupting sleep and hormonal balance.

  • Environmental toxins such as heavy metals like mercury and lead, and fluoride exposure found in water and dental products, can accumulate in the body, affecting the pineal gland’s structure and function. Toxins and fluoride are on my list , along with other chemicals and foods to avoid for a longer and healthier life.

  • Calcium and phosphate imbalances can lead to pineal calcification by promoting the deposition of calcium phosphate crystals in the pineal gland. Elevated calcium levels, regulated by parathyroid hormones, increase the risk of calcification.

  • 5G, EMFs, and certain vaccinations contribute to the calcification of the pineal gland.

Support pineal gland health and decalcification

Pineal Gland Endocrine System Circadian Rhythm Hormones

Purium has recently introduced a revolutionary product - Pineal Clear drops designed to support pineal gland health and decalcification. Purium focuses on whole food nutrition only, maintaining the molecular structure of nutrients in their natural state. Pineal Clear is a scientifically formulated blend of organic extracts aimed at restoring hormonal balance, supporting brain health, and regulating the bio and circadian rhythm.

In my recent IG Live with Dr. Tas Ferreira, a Functional Medicine Doctor with a Doctorate in Genetics who focuses on raising awareness of gut health and toxicity, we discussed natural ways to support melatonin production and circadian rhythm instead of taking melatonin pills, which I don’t recommend.

In essence, the endocrine system, with its multifaceted glands and hormones, underscores the body's intricate balance. Understanding and supporting its functions, like with Pineal Clear, can pave the way for optimal health and well-being.
